Apollo Hospital opened its door in 1983 with only 150 beds and its first patient, a young man with a faulty heart. As the Apollo Hospital has grown to 10,000 beds, it has also grown to become one of India’s top healthcare providers.
Today the hospital spans across forty-three hospitals as well as neighborhood clinics, a chain of pharmacies, health insurance provider, and clinical research departments.
Apollo Hospital’s greatest success is the fact that it reaches across India to over ten million people through its forty-three hospitals and door step patient service. The Apollo healthcare system has hospitals in some of the biggest cities in India such as Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.
The main branch of the Apollo Hospitals is located in Chennai. It was the first to conduct procedures such as Total Knee Replacement, Coronary Angioplasty, Liver, multi-organ and cord blood transplants, and Radiosurgery. The Apollo Hospital of Chennai has received many accolades. It was confirmed by the Government of India to be a “Centre of Excellence.”
