P.D. Hinduja National Hospital in Bombay was a fifty year old dream in the making when it finally opened to the public as an outdoor clinic in 1951.
As the need for a full service tertiary healthcare facility grew and more medical professionals joined the outdoor clinic, the hospital came to be known as the P.D. Hinduja National Hospital in 1953.
The goal of the hospital was to bring the highest level of medical and surgical treatment to the average person living in Bombay and its neighboring cities and urban areas with a focus on philanthropy.
To obtain and maintain this goal, the hospital offers continuing education to its healthcare providers and other staff members. The hospital was established by philanthropist Shri Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja. In 1986, the small one hundred bed hospital grew to its current status.
The hospital now has 351 beds to accommodate both inpatient and outpatient care. Hinduja National Hospital grew again in 1991 with the construction of two new buildings which house the School of Nursing and residential facilities for the staff. The hospital has over seventy medical providers on hand to perform in fields such as Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology, Rheumatology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, and Psychiatry.
P.D. Hinduja Hospital works in conjunction with Massachusetts General Hospital in the United States. They are a contemporary tertiary healthcare facility acknowledged with performing investigative medical services and diagnosis, treatment and after treatment care. P.D. Hinduja Hospital performs community outreach programs and services to the rural areas surrounding Bombay. The School of Nursing’s Under Five Program evaluates the growth and improvement of children under five years of age in poor communities.
