Hospitals in Bombay

Hospitals in Bombay may consist of either government hospitals or private medical institutes.

Recently there have been complaints about the government hospitals regarding inadequate facilities and the way they are run.

However private hospitals are turning away HIV positive patients even though they are better equipped to treat the condition so the people suffering from this find the best bet is state clinics and hospitals.

Medication is free of cost while in private hospitals in Bombay the prescriptions are expensive and are often found to be the wrong drugs. A note was sent to India’s Supreme Court asking for approval to provide care for HIV victims and suggested stringent action against doctors or nurses who refuse to treat infected patients.

Over the last year, invertors have gone beyond large corporate hospital chains to supply the growing need of health care across India. There is a rising demand of quality health care throughout India. A study by the Confederation of Indian Industry says they need an additional seven hundred thousand beds to meet the needs of patients in 2012.

There are not enough municipal hospitals in Bombay. The birth rate is almost double the death rate. New hospitals and maternity homes are needed with maternity wards. New employees are needed with specialized training.

According to the Bombay Community Public Trust, ten million patients are treated yearly in out patient departments in the municipal hospitals. There far over a million people are treated in one hospital alone on a yearly basis.

There is also an elaborate system established for out patients that do not need hospital care. The city has a huge population that has placed a terrific burden on health care facilities. One ward with over eight hundred thousand people does not have one hospital. Many of the people that need help risk loosing a day’s wages to get it.

There is too much bureaucracy and it is slowing sown the process of giving health care to those that need it. The government run hospitals in Bombay are inadequately staffed because it’s more appealing to have a private practice then to work in a government hospital. The salary is meager, the work is hard and the facilities are not that good. Access and location is most critical for public health care facilities. Without access to convenient locations the poor turn elseware for help which means they are going to become the victim of unqualified doctors and quacks.
